A life of prosperity and abundance is available to everyone, a full life, replete with all good things that God, that the Universe has to offer each and every one of us: health, wealth, family, friends, food, and fun – a life of plenty with creative, meaningful work, community and fellowship, travel, interesting and challenging ideas, and so many more good things.

When we are living a full, rich life, we can be sure that it will also contain many varied “fabulous opportunities for growth” also known as FOG’s (although why someone called them an “AFGO” I can never understand). These lucky breaks come along, often appearing in disguise – as challenges, setbacks, roadblocks, or painful choices.

The ancient word for “hope”today has a watered-down meaning. When people say "hope" they often mean “wish.” But hope originally meant earnestly expecting.

To hope, when used correctly, virtually guarantees that things will turn out better than we can possibly imagine. We know we will receive what we hope for, and more! So….

A person who is filthy rich with enthusiasm meets challenges with earnest expectation of good coming. They hope, they expect, they have no doubt that, “there’s gold in them thar hills

…. and all you have to do is lug a ton of gear up the side of the mountain and dig! Oh! and dig in many different places until you hit the right spot!

God can move mountains, but bring a shovel

In other words, be prepared, work at it and keep at it, until you arrive at the right place at the right time. Until you strike gold (or oil, or silver, or diamonds).

Fortunately, God is good (all the time)! and we are certain to be led to the right spot, the right person, the right opportunity, the right and perfect answer to our current FOG.

But we must do our part….

What is our part? We must (and we can) raise our thoughts, and especially our feelings – our vibration –– to the highest level that we can conceive of, and maintain that vibration, raising it even further.

The secret? It’s no secret. It has been written about in the greatest texts, philosophies for millennia. It is at the true heart of every religious and spiritual path. It is the core of all mysticism, New Thoughtand New Age philosophy.

They even made a movie about it in 2006, with the eponymous title, The Secret. (follow the link to watch the first 20 minutes of this well-known film).

The “secret” (not a secret) can be summed up this way:

Like attracts like

Thoughts become things

The common expression “Opposites attract,” is wrong. It is 180° away from the Truth. Just like water seeks its own level, the energy of the Universe responds to whatever level we believe we are at.

Like attracts like, is an easy, short-hand way of expressing a powerful Universal Law:

Whatever our level of vibration, we attract to us the things about which we are thinking and feeling – feelings that lie at our deepest core.

The Universe is responding with astounding accuracy to our vibration.

It is a secret which every[one] quickly learns, that, beyond the energy of his possessed and conscious intellect, he is capable of a new energy (as of an intellect doubled on itself), by abandonment to the nature of things; that, beside his privacy of power as an individual… there is a great public power, on which he can draw, by unlocking, at all risks, his human doors, and suffering the ethereal tides to roll and circulate through him: then is he caught up into the life of the Universe, his speech is thunder, his thought is law, and his words are universally intelligible as the plants and animals.

― Ralph Waldo Emerson (emphasis added)

Emerson’s writings lead the Transcendentalists movement, a philosophical, spiritual, and literary movement from the1820s and 1830s. With roots deeply embedded in both Unitarianism and Hinduism, they realized that an individual’s relationship with the Universal (God) could be both personal and intensely spiritual.

They saw that the Universe responded in an immediate, personal and profound way to our thinking! They experimented and came to see that a person’s life circumstances and choices were grounded in their thoughts, words, feelings, and beliefs.

They saw that, as we come into alignment with this Reality, we can learn to calibrate our thoughts, words, feelings and beliefs to bring about our highest good – despite appearances, despite circumstances that seem limiting or negative or troubling. Every “hill” contained gold, if we can turn our eyes away from the problem, and focus on higher orders of thinking.

In the Unity movement of the 1880’s, which lives on all over the world in Unity Churches and Spiritual Centers, Charles and Myrtle Fillmore asserted the Law of Attraction in this simple mantra:

Thoughts held in mind produce after their kind

We cannot avoid the Law of Attraction, any more than we can avoid the Law of Gravity. We are in charge, in control of our lives and what happens is based on our level of positive (or negative) vibration.

Henry David Thoreau, another Transcendentalist, visionary, mystic and philosopher who lived his life by his beliefs wrote this in his book, Walden, which I quote in Prosperity Now!

I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary; new, universal, and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselves around and within him; or the old laws be expanded, and interpreted in his favor in a more liberal sense, and he will live with the license of a higher order of beings. In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude, nor poverty poverty, nor weakness weakness. If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.

The key words and phrases in this amazing and poetic description of the Law of Attraction are confidently, success, new laws, universal laws, higher order of beings.

So to be “filthy rich in enthusiasm” sets up a vibration to which God responds -- because God is Universal Law!

When we feel, believe, know, assert, affirm our wealth – our abundance of joy, of life, of health, of enthusiasm, of happiness, of faith, of hope – earnestly expecting only the very best, the very highest good for ourselves and for all involved, we are setting ourselves up for success.

The very word enthusiasm has its roots in the Greek word, theos which means God. To be enthused is to be filled with God.

When we are in that state of enthusiasm – despite appearances in our medical chart, in our bank account, in our lives, the Law of Attraction – the Laws of God – will respond, not to the outer circumstances, but to our inner, “fullness of life” that we are expressing with every fiber of our being.

Try this experiment that I learned from Carey Bayer’s talks:

Shout ENTHUSIASM ten times, at the top of your lungs,

and see how you feel afterwards.
